Big boys shoot people?
Marc Wadsworth
They've just sorted out the lockers at my community gym. But last night someone still threatened to get his gun and do some damage because his possessions had gone missing.
Before management at Peckham Pulse in south east London, made it mandatory for the members to bring their own padlocks the security of personal belongings was hazardous to say the least. But the new system is not fool proof either.
I overheard one vexed regular, with a hapless security guard trailing him, say: "They've nicked my things and you don't want to know how much money I had in my wallet." He added, menacingly: "If my things aren't found someone is going to get shot. I'm a big boy you know."
My guess is his possessions have gone for good. No one will get shot. And, the poor loser will be back in the gym like a bear with a sore arse sooner rather than later.
Training to keep fit is addictive. And, as Suzette Annan observed in one of her characteristically feisty, observant, well-written blogs on The-Latest, now the Olympics are on Tv gyms are heaving to capacity.
Personally, I just do the cardio-vascular cycling, rowing and running machines and tread mill stuff. Fitness rather than bulking up on the weights is most important for me. I'm not going to line up with the narcissist macho men who pose in front of the floor to ceiling mirror flexing their muscles to the strains of Justin Timberlake's catchy tune Sexyback with the lyric "Go heavy go" pumping from the PA system.
A mirror image?
You say you're not one for standing in front of a mirror. However, I bet you quite liked the picture of you that covered two columns in your recent piece in the Press Gazette!
Red faces all round
Who's a cheeky man, Phil? See you in the gym.
