Blogger slams 'thieving' news media

There's a battle raging between the mainstream news media and a political anorak blogger who writes under the guise of Guido Fawkes. Hacks are accused by him of constantly lifting stories from his blog, without always linking to his site, writes Chris Gaynor.

Guido writes in his blog story: "Look chaps, if you are going to lift, at least link. If you don't want to admit to your editors that you are taking the money under false pretences for cutting 'n pasting from blogs, rather than actually cultivating sources, send a case of Margaux."

He adds: "This blog is not a syndication service for lazy hacks."

Apparently, GUIDO had uncovered a key text from the PM's leadership challenger's parliamentary private secretary, which had been quoted in the Times Online Diary, and The Guardian.

The TImes had actually given credit to the blog, but Guido did not like the fact that there was no link back to his site in the online version.

And he was raging because on Farringdon Road, home of The Guardian newspaper, a hack had not given any credit for the same blog post he had lifted.

Guido wrote an article a few days ago slamming the laziness of mainstream hacks who lift but don't credit.

Luckily, because The-Latest acts swiftly and firmly, the scoops uncovered on this trend-setting news portal have been linked back to the site.

Guido's website is named after the famous 16th century English Roman Catholic revolutionary whose attempt to blow up the British parliament became known as the gunpowder plot. Read more about the row here: http://www.order-order.com/2008/09/thieving-parasitical-journalists.html.
