'Brokeback Mountain' Love Lies

'Brokeback Mountain', the Hollywood, Oscar winning film about love between two cowboys has served as a very positive tool in opening up a raft of discussion about same sex relationships in countries where such unions are outlawed and among communities and groups where the subject remains taboo. However, we all know that stories conveyed by tinseltown have their limitations and sooner or later the harsh realities of fall out from parallel real life situations wound like a knife to the heart. This has been the case for many ordinary married American women, who watched 'Brokeback'. According to sociologist, Edward O. Laumann, based at the University of Chicago at least 1.7 million to 3.4 million American women once were or are currently married to men who have sex with men. Sally-Anne, 35, from Texas said: "After watching the film I cried and not just for the woman on-screen, watching her husband embrace a man. When I saw that look in her eyes, I thought, 'oh yeah'. Two years earlier, Sally-Anne discovered her husbands profile on a gay website. She said:"We stayed up all night weepng and talking". Four months later the couple divorced. There are, of course, a sizeable percentage of women who are knowingly involved in 'mixed orientation' marriages which work very well. What are your thoughts on this issue?
