Glamour on a desert island

Vanessa Sowerby

I try to imagine life on a desert island and think about how a publication would be of comfort to me. Although, at first it crosses my mind whether to take the magazine with the most pages so that, after I had read it cover to cover it could be used as fire material.

But then again, I think on a tranquil desert island, I would want to be entertained by my favourite glossy, Glamour magazine because it's packed full with spicy stories from a woman's perspective. Glamour has so much substance to it. There is the right amount of fashion and beauty content, human interest stories, tips on how to improve your love relationships and  'keep your man', horoscopes and chic adverts.

On a desert island, I would want to read something familiar to me, as a comfort zone link with the outside world. The latest fashion trends can come from anywhere in the world. Maybe, the  'ethnic range' of Monsoon, environment-conscious Body Shop, United Colours of Benetton.

Or traditional Kate Moss-modelled Burberry. Fashion never fails to impress and excite me. It is incredible how I can become exstatic over a new pair of skyscraper heels! Glamour provides me with the high fashion inspiration in the first place as well as advertising the latest Top Shop, H&M, Zara and other high street ranges. For me, the juiciest part of Glamour is the beauty section.

Every month, I wait with anticipation to look at the innovative, colourful, striking makeup pages; the primping and preening tips and the renowned secrets to glowing skin. After I have finished reading Glamour in the cool, tropical breeze, I will use it to send a message in a bottle across the sea to buy many more fashion magazines once I get back to civilisation.
