Horror images used to scare smokers

Beleaguered Health Secretary Patricia Hewitt has launched the Governments latest offensive aimed at deterring people from smoking. A website has been set up inviting the public to choose a series of picture warnings which will cover 40% of the back of cigarette packets from autumn 2007. The move has been welcomed by Cancer Research UK. However, Simon Clark, director of smokers’ lobby group Forest said: “We are strongly opposed to graphic health warnings. Smokers are well aware of the health risks of smoking. The proposed images are gratuitously offensive and yet another example of smokers being singled out for special attention”. Are smokers being unfairly treated by powerful, rabid anti smoking campaigners? The-Latest would like to know your views about the images and this Department of Health initiative.
