Good as Gold: Nadal inspecting TrophyGood as Gold: Nadal inspecting TrophyTroubled Boris Johnson took time out from his woes as London Mayor to watch the titanic tussle between Tennis supremos Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer at Wimbledon on Sunday night.

Johnson, who was forced to sack his deputy Ray Lewis last week, who had lied about his past regarding being a magistrate, looked on as both players entertained a packed crowd of tense fans at the All England club.

Nadal clinched the mens singles title after he had squandered two match points at two games to nil.

But Federer clawed his way back to two games all - before Nadal broke Federer's serve in the fifth.

Upon winning, Nadal raced to hug his parents, before shaking with sweaty hands Spanish Royalty.

Loser Federer told the BBC's Sue Barker on Centre Court: "I tried everything."

And added: "But Rafael played fantastic. And deserved the win."

Federer had defeated Nadal on previous occassions at London's premier Tennis tournament.

Nadal paid tribute to Federer's battling qualities saying he had played a cracking match.

It was the longest ever final lasting just under five hours - because of showers interrupting play earlier on.

Play ended at around half-past nine in the evening.

On Saturday, 14-year-old Brit Laura Robson became the youngest champion to win the junior Wimbledon ladies single title.

And mighty Venus Williams defeated younger sister Serena to continue the William's sisters long reign at Wimbledon.
