NHS piggy in the middle

Britain's National Health Service has become a political football by the main political parties.

The NHS, which was created by a once socialist Labour government, true to its roots in 1948, has now entered the phase of which party can appear the most passionate about providing free at the point of need healthcare for the many not just the few.

Labour Party Deputy General Secretary Alicia Kennedy, sent a bog standard email to Labour supporters urging people to support what was a triumphant creation.

And what one party do, another party follow suit.

David Cameron's Tories have also been trumpeting the NHS by urging people to sign a birthday message e-card to wish the organisation a Happy 60th.

And ofcourse, there is always the Party swipes.

Kennedy's email attacked the Tory salesmanship, which has been a tactic employed by struggling Gordon Brown at Prime minister's questions the past few weeks.

Her email read: "Thank you for joining the thousands of people who have united in support for our Proud of the NHS campaign."

She added: "We're also at the cusp of reaching our ambitious goal - to raise £60,000 so that we can effectively communicate our campaign messages in the key electoral battle grounds across the country. Beneath David Cameron's shallow salesmanship, the Tories still want to scrap longer GP opening hours and are committed to £10 billion cuts that would put investment in the NHS at risk. With your help we'll be able to get this message out and protect the NHS from this threat. I can't stress how important your help is."

So, the NHS is piggy in the middle. When will they concentrate on the real issues facing the NHS, such as improving care for the elderly, instead of embarking in pathetic political posturing?
