March for murdered BenMarch for murdered BenChannel Four's Disarming Britain season kicked off last night with an in depth look at how to tackle the UK's wave of gun and knife crime which has spiralled out of control.

The television company has broadcast a range of programmes on the issue, including Broken Britain, and the usual investigative pieces of undercover journalism which is the stock in trade of Dispatches.

The programme last week had tackled the rising Britain's food prices rip offs, and is popular for its tough reporting on issues.

Disarming Britain has also been advertising itself on the social networking site Facebook, and has received wide ranging support from Facebookers eager to play their part in fighting this terrible problem that is not just confined to London's Streets.

Thousands of young people took to the streets of north London to protest at the knifing to death of the brother of a former Eastenders actress. Ben Kinsella, 16, had died after a brawl involving a gang of youths. He was stabbed in Islington, north London, in what has been described as an unprovoked attack on the youngster.

Kinsella (pictured, left), was a talented actor, who had also starred in the cop drama The Bill on ITV, as a youngster who had been caught by PC Tony Stamp with a gun.

Ben's sister, the former Eastenders star Brooke Kinsella, made a tearful police appeal on Tv yesterday to urge youngsters to stop the bloodshed and bring peace back on the streets of Britain.

Kinsella was the 17th Londoner to be killed this year, according to reports. Four teenagers have been arrested by police in Islington, Chadwell Heath and Bethnal Green, in connection with the murder. They are alleged to be connected to a drug dealing and gun-running gang called the Untouchables.

One viewer of the show, who told the Disarming Britain Facebook network in comment: "

I am watching “kids knives and broken lives” at the moment and what strikes me is that it’s not the weapons that are the problem it’s the readiness to use them.

Many of the kids on here say that “anything is a weapon”. They don’t even seem to think twice about causing serious harm to another human being. There is no contemplation, no remorse no thought!"

Where has this arrogance come from, why do these people think they are owed respect.
Respect it is something you earn, these people are confusing respect with fear."
