Good time for economics student?

As an economics student my desktop cursor is constantly being dragged towards those business pages on BBC News which without fail always report those stories filled with doom and gloom. For an economics standpoint, it's pretty useful to have endless examples to throw into essays but then again, it can get pretty irritating when you know exactly what is meant by "an economic slow down" which has in recent days become an almost inevitable recession.

Watch the news and you're constantly bombarded by talk of inflation and reduced economic growth but how many people really know what it means? I mean, before my course i didn't have a clue what they were on about when newsreaders blabbed on about the credit crunch...even their explanations didn't explain anything. Honestly, what good can that do? Everyone gets scared and starts panicking but what are they panicking about? Something that the newsreader said and sounds a bit like it might possibly be something like a bad thing?

I don't mean to make it sound like nothing's wrong...because it seriously is. The fact of the matter is that the people are just having their heads messed about with, enough bad news fills our lives, do we really need extra confusions if no one is actually going to try and properly explain it? I don't think so.
