Last night I was lucky enough to attend a special advance screening of The Dark Knight, 2008’s most anticipated film. I was thrilled to be among one of the first UK audiences to watch the film.
The Batman Begins sequel has been plagued by controversy, from Heath Ledger's death to Katie Holmes's blatant disrespect for continuity and a crash which left a stuntman dead and the most recent reports of assault surrounding Christian Bale. So after all the hype, the mainstream success and the critical acclaim, the movie finally arrived to UK screens and as an avid fan of comic books, films and general concept of Batman I was blown away. Everyone will speak of Ledgers chilling and psychotic portrayal of The Joker, whose combination of twisted humour and crazed mentality will stun audiences for years to come. He quite simply stole the show.
But please let’s not forget to applaud the amazing Aaron Eckhart who played Harvey Dent to perfection. The actor managed to capture both the differences and parallels between Dent and Batman in intense fashion.
The brilliance of the Nolan brothers, Christopher the director and Jonathan as the screenwriter, the impeccable acting of each and every member of the cast made the film complete. Christian Bale was flawless as always bar his vocal interpretation of Batman, Michael Caine, Morgan Freeman, Maggie Gyllenhaal made the film even more awesome.
The Dark Knight is an epic, at 150 minutes; this comic book sequel felt more like a gangster crime drama, the style of the film was more godfather-esque than comic book clean. This is one summer blockbuster which had truly surpassed the hype.
The film was rated PG13, I genuinely question the certificate rating. Trust me it’s that dark.
Watch it.
