Still unpopular? PM BrownThe success of Team Great Britain's (GB) Olympic medal tally in Beijing has not boosted the popularity of Gordon Brown's Labour government, a ComRes Independent on Sunday poll reveals.
Despite the price of food and fuel easing, slightly, Brown's hopes of striking Gold out of the Olympics have been shattered by the poll revealing the Tories are still on a huge lead of 46% to Labour's dismal 25%.
Team GB have now racked up 19 Golds, but Brown is struggling to maintain 'POLE' position in the political Olympic showdown.
The Liberal Democrats are lagging on 16%.
Mike Smithson, of the political betting website, said: "It’s becoming hard to see what could prompt a reversal. I think that what we are seeing is a strong desire for change and that is what is being picked up in poll after poll month after month. Figures like the latest from ComRes have become the new norm."
Culture minister Andy Burnham was talking to Virgin Radio yesterday and said: "It would be wrong for a government to go around the media studios claiming that the Olympic success was all down to the governnment. That would be crass."
He added: "But the funding Labour have put in has helped."
The minister was talking from Beijing, where he jokily added: "We (government) are working round the clock - no time to relax here."
Burnham seemed to be retracting comments he made over a week ago to SKY NEWS when he boasted that team GBs success was mainly down to labour.
Ofcourse, with the recent GCSE and A-Level results, Labour would claim to be the party of achievement.
Our athletes have been on form, our school kids are getting better grades than ever, and the 2012 campaign is on course - despite the worrying economical outlook which has suggested Britain is in a recession already.
So, all is rosy in the park for Gordon and team Labour? (apart from the ComRes poll)
