Pakistani politics takes a new turn after former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif extracted his party out of Pakistan’s ruling coalition on Monday, a move likely to concentrate power with parties hoping to preserve the country’s alliance with the United States.

According to reports Sharif was said to be withdrawing from the five month alliance because it failed to restore judges ousted by ex-president Pervez Musharraf or agree upon a neutral successor to the US allied strongman.

The main finger of blame is being pointed at the head of the ruling party Asif Ali Zardari, a named retired judge is set to run against Zardari in the presidential election on September 6.

However, Sharif vowed to play a "constructive" role while in the opposition.

Sharif told a news conference: "We don't want to be instrumental in overthrowing any government. We don't have any such intentions."

Almost over a week since Musharraf’s resignation the anti- Musharraf alliance is falling apart.

The rat race continues.
