Campbell span out of control

FORMER PM Tony Blair's spin guru Alastair Campbell will reveal next week in a documentary that he was on the brink of collapse when he used to sink up to 16 pints and a bottle of scotch per day - before he became Britain's No 1 spin maestro.

Campbell,51, has been involved in a string of high profile controversies at No 10, and will tell documentary makers on BBC Two's Cracking Up that, 'You feel like your mind is like a plate of glass and you are trying to hold it together.'

The top spin king was a former journalist with the Mirror in his early days, and claimed his heavy drinking was due to the stress of the job. 

I sympathise, the stresses and strains of journalism hold firm...at any age...at any experience...

In a clip on the video sharing network Youtube, former Tory leader Michael Howard accused Campbell of a culture of lying and conniving at the top under Blair, which brought the tone and standards of political life into disrepute.

But Campbell said that Howard's comments were made because of sour grapes, because he failed to win the 2005 election. Campbell has already well documented his thoughts in his diaries... The Blair Years...
