What's Gordon got up his sleeve?...

I believe PM Gordon Brown is so comfortable in his bunker at No 10, a snap election seems the stuff of fantasy rather than reality.
Brown has already agreed to go on a spending splurge, to try and lift Britain out of a recession, but has, atlast, admitted taxes will have to rise in future.
So, either way, the admission means he is holding out as long as he can in his bunker and waiting to see how the other political parties will react to his spending splurge.
Despite the polls constantly leaning towards the Tories, it can't always be one way traffic for David Cameron.
To give Brown credit, he had the Tories on the edge of their seats last year, when he bottled out. Perhaps he knew the Tories would show their hand first? And they got sucked into the Inheritance Tax hand....
Mike Smithson in his Political Betting blog has this take on Brown's dilemma: "The psychology can be rough when you are short-stacked, but nothing puts a player ‘on-tilt’ like the realisation that he was bluffed off a major win by his opponent. That is what happened last year, and it is understandable that Brown would want to prove his courage and remedy that missed opportunity as soon as he had a strong enough chip-stack."
On whether Brown should stick or twist, Smithson adds: "Yet similarly, waiting for the perfect hand will see you waste money on the blinds, and calling bad bets, until time runs out. There are no prizes for making it to the final hand - a good opponent will recognise that waiting so long implied a lack of confidence in your cards, and will take advantage of your inability to manoevre. I wouldn’t even contemplate waiting until May 2010."
