Event Details:

A very British tournament.

Freshly mown grass, a sprinkling of applause, crisp white tennis outfits, an obsession with the weather and a handful of Royals... what could be more English than Wimbledon?

The oldest tennis tournament in the world, Wimbledon was first held back in 1877. Of the four Grand Slam tennis tournaments, Wimbledon is the most prestigious; winning it is many a player's greatest ambition.

All matches are played on traditional grass courts, a fast surface which requires special skills. This traditional British surface suits serve and volley players best. Grass courts can prove a challenge, particularly for players who have just finished the clay season.

Pete Sampras, Bjorn Borg, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal are a few of the greats within men's tennis who have won the coveted title several times, while Martina Navratilova, Elizabeth Ryan, Billie Jean King and the Williams sisters are just some of the superstars to have won the women's tournament. In 2013, with the support of the home crowd, Andy Murray was the first Brit to have won the men's tournament for 77 years.

A quintessentially English tournament, Wimbledon promises great sportsmanship and, above all, a fantastic atmosphere. Strawberries and cream all round!
