IT'S been a while since I received any emails from the independent organisation calling for independent politics in the mother of parliaments in the UK. But the JuryTeam have just sent this into subscribers' inboxes.
A significant first they say for them is that John Smeaton (in the video) will be contesting the Glasgow North-east - held by the disgraced former Speaker of the House Michael Martin, who resigned earlier this year due to pressure from MPs over his running of the House. The by-election will be held in mid-November.
Smeaton, they say, fought off terrorists during the attack on Glasgow Airport in July 2007. He’s the first candidate to be supported by the Jury Team to contest a seat in the House of Commons.
His comments to terrorists were: “Glasgow doesn’t accept this. This is Glasgow; we’ll set aboot ye,” saw John become an internet phenomenon and led to him receiving the Queen’s Gallantry Medal for his actions.
He said he is standing because believes people have become sick of MPs’ weasel words and cliché-ridden promises.
