British pop group Embrace have revealed the name and lyrics of the official England World Cup song. The band came to prominence in the late 1990s cultivating a loyal fan base with their flare for big, catchy anthemic music. The ditty, entitled 'World At Your Feet', will be released on June 5th. The Football Association commissioned Embrace to record the tune. Eager supporters will be hoping that the lyrics which include: “You’re the first in my life/ To make me think/ That we might just go all the way/ And I, want you to know we’re all hanging on” will motivate the England team to victory in the tournament this summer.
World Cup success has eluded England since their historical win against West Germany at Wembley in 1966. I’m sure everyone wishes the 2006 England squad the best of British luck. But if they are unable to break the 40 year spell of World Cup misfortune, here are few song titles which might prove more suitable: 'My Way' (Frank Sinatra), 'Didn’t We Almost Have It All' (Witney Houston), 'The Winner Takes It All' (Abba),
'I Predict A Riot' ( Kaiser Chiefs). What other suggestions do The-Latest.Comers have?
Dutch Bate German Fans
On the theme of football anthems, a band in Holland have released a World Cup song in German rather than their native Dutch. For those with some detailed knowledge of the game, it is apparently a throwback to 1998 and a clash between footballers Marco van Basten and Jurgen Klinsman. Band member Dmitry Beugelink said: “We recorded it in German so the wankers can also listen to it. The song is quite catchy. You can download the song, 'L opend Vuur' at www.lopend-vuur.com.
